About This Trail

The Elliot Access Route provides access to the backcountry ski terrain around Elliot Peak in the Evelyn section of the Hankin-Evelyn Recreation Area. It serves as an approach route for skiers travelling toward the Elliot runs and surrounding mountain terrain. The route passes through a natural forested setting and provides access to the ungroomed backcountry skiing network. Visitors should use the designated access route and current trail map to navigate safely.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, travel north on Highway 16 and turn left onto Owens Road, following signs for the Toboggan Creek Fish Hatchery. Turn left onto Pope Road, then left onto Rope Road, followed by a right onto Raufer (Rauter) Road. Continue to the end of the road, then turn left toward the designated Evelyn parking area. From there, follow the mapped access route toward the Elliot ski terrain.

Parking

Use the designated Evelyn parking area, established in 2023 to provide access to the recreation area. Be prepared for snowy and icy winter road conditions. Park only in the designated area and keep access roads and the gravel pit entrance clear.

  • Watch for tree wells, hidden branches, rocks, and other natural obstacles.
  • Bring suitable winter clothing, food, water, and navigation equipment.
  • Use a GPS-enabled map to confirm your location and route.
