About This Trail

Uptrack (E – Shortcut to Warming Hut) is a designated uphill access route in the Hankin Backcountry Recreation Area, providing a shorter connection toward the Hankin warming hut. It offers backcountry skiers an alternative way to reach the hut while travelling through the forested mountain terrain. The warming hut is intended for daytime use, providing a place to take a break and warm up during a day of skiing.

Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, travel north on Highway 16 and turn left onto Kitseguecla Loop Road. Cross the railway tracks and continue along Kitseguecla Lake Road. After approximately 8 km, turn left onto the 608 (Uptrack) Forest Service Road. Follow the road to the designated Hankin parking lot. From the parking area, follow the marked uptracks and official trail map to locate Uptrack E and its shortcut connection to the warming hut.

Parking

Parking is available at the designated Hankin parking lot. Winter road conditions can be snowy and icy, so a four-wheel-drive vehicle with winter tires and chains is recommended. The upper section of Uptrack FSR is narrow and single-lane, with descending traffic having the right of way. Trailers are not permitted.
