Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, travel north on Highway 16 and turn left onto Kitseguecla Loop Road. Follow the signs, cross the railway tracks, and continue along Kitseguecla Lake Road. After approximately 8 km, turn left onto the 608 (Uptrack) Forest Service Road and follow it to the Hankin parking lot. From the parking area, use the marked access trails and current Hankin map to locate Uptrack (8A).

Parking

Park in the designated Hankin-Evelyn parking area. The access road can be snowy, icy, and narrow during winter. Four-wheel drive with winter tires and chains is recommended. The upper section of Uptrack FSR is single-lane, and descending vehicles have the right of way. Trailers are not permitted.

Safety & Preparation

  • This is a backcountry route, not a groomed or patrolled ski trail.
  • Check the avalanche forecast and current weather before heading out.
  • Carry a transceiver, probe, and shovel, and know how to use them.
  • Travel with a partner and remain aware of changing snow conditions.
  • Watch for tree wells, buried branches, rocks, and other hidden obstacles.
  • Bring appropriate clothing, food, water, and navigation equipment.
  • Tell someone your route and expected return time; cell service may be unreliable.
