About This Trail

Short Dog is a short, forested dog-friendly trail within the Onion Lake Cross Country Ski Trails system. It provides a designated route for skiers with dogs and is part of the Nordic trail network.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel south on Highway 37 toward the Onion Lake trail system. Enter the established trail area and follow the signs toward the designated Dog Trail access.

Parking

Parking is available at the established Onion Lake Cross Country Ski Trails parking areas. Dogs should remain on leash from the parking area until reaching the designated dog-trail entrance.

Safety & Preparation

  • Dogs are permitted off leash only on the designated dog trail and when under control.
  • Keep dogs on leash when travelling between the parking area and the dog-trail entrance.
  • Follow the posted direction of travel when skiing with dogs.
  • Watch for other skiers, dogs, and trail users.
  • Snow and icy conditions can make the trail slippery.
  • Follow current Onion Lake trail rules and posted dog-trail restrictions.
  • Wildlife and an active trapping area are present in the surrounding area; keep dogs under control and stay on the designated trail.
