About This Trail

Hardscrabble is a forested multi-use trail in the Onion Lake trail network between Terrace and Kitimat. It is part of the Nordic ski system and is also listed for gravel biking, providing a route through the surrounding forest.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel south on Highway 37 toward the Onion Lake area. Enter the Onion Lake trail system and follow the established network toward Hardscrabble.

Parking

Parking is available at the established Onion Lake Cross Country Ski Trails access area. Use designated parking spaces and keep access roads and trail entrances clear.

Safety & Preparation

  • The trail is used for Nordic skiing during winter.
  • Expect natural forest surfaces, roots, uneven ground, and potentially muddy sections.
  • Watch for skiers, cyclists, hikers, and other trail users.
  • Wet, icy, or snowy conditions can make the trail slippery.
  • Wildlife may be present in the surrounding forest and wetland areas.
  • Follow posted signs and seasonal trail-use instructions.
