About This Trail

Lyon Creek Trail is a challenging backcountry hiking route in Babine Mountains Provincial Park near Smithers. The trail climbs steadily from the Driftwood Road area into subalpine terrain, with boardwalk sections through wet areas and scenic views of the Bulkley Valley and Telkwa Range. It crosses Lyon Creek, traverses Ramrock Pass, and continues through Ganokwa Basin before reaching The Summit, where it connects with the McCabe and Little Joe Creek trails.

Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, travel along Highway 16 east and turn onto Babine Lake Road. Follow the route toward Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park, then continue along Driftwood Road. The Lyon Creek trailhead is approximately 4 km beyond Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park. Follow the signed trail from the trailhead into the Babine Mountains.

Parking

Parking is available near the Lyon Creek trailhead along Driftwood Road. Park only in established areas and keep the road clear for other vehicles and resource traffic.

Safety & Preparation

  • Moderate-to-difficult backcountry trail with steep and uneven sections.
  • Expect wet and swampy sections, boardwalks, rocky terrain, and changing conditions at higher elevations.
  • Ramrock Pass and the alpine sections can be exposed to rapidly changing mountain weather.
  • Snow may remain at higher elevations outside the main summer season.
  • The route is remote; carry an offline map, navigation equipment, sufficient food and water, and emergency supplies.
  • Bicycles are not permitted on Lyon Creek Trail.
  • Horseback riders require written permission from BC Parks before using the trail.
  • Bears, mountain goats, moose, and other wildlife are present in the park. Practice wildlife safety.
  • Cell service may be limited or unavailable.
