About This Trail

Silver King and McCabe Trail is a scenic backcountry route in Babine Mountains Provincial Park near Smithers. The route combines the historic Silver King mining-road trail with the McCabe Trail, which climbs through forest and subalpine terrain along the north slopes of Harvey and Pyramid mountains. The route passes Copper Lakes and continues toward The Summit, offering views of the surrounding Babine Mountains and alpine landscape.

Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, follow Old Babine Lake Road toward Driftwood Canyon and continue onto Driftwood Road toward the Babine Mountains. Follow the park access road to the Silver King/McCabe trailhead and parking area. The McCabe Trail branches from the Silver King Trail shortly before Sunny Point.

Parking

Parking is available at the established trailhead near the end of the summer-access road. Space is limited, so park within designated areas and keep the access road clear.

Safety & Preparation

  • Backcountry route with changing forest, subalpine, and alpine conditions.
  • Expect uneven terrain, steep sections, rocks, roots, mud, and potentially snow at higher elevations.
  • Weather can change quickly in the mountains; carry appropriate clothing and emergency supplies.
  • McCabe Trail is for hiking; bicycles are not permitted on McCabe Trail.
  • Keep dogs leashed and under control. Pets are discouraged in alpine areas to reduce impacts on mountain goats.
  • Carry sufficient drinking water; potable water is not available along the hiking trails.
  • Stay on established trails and avoid old mining workings and restricted areas.
  • Bears and other wildlife are present; practice appropriate wildlife safety.
  • Cell coverage may be limited. Carry an offline map and navigation backup.
