Getting There

Directions

From Hartley Bay, follow the local Upper Lake access route toward the Upper Lake watershed. Access is subject to current Gitga’at First Nation and project restrictions, so confirm permission and current conditions before entering.

Parking

Parking is limited and should only be used at locations authorized by the Gitga’at First Nation or local site managers. Do not block the Upper Lake access road or areas used by construction and maintenance vehicles.

Safety & Preparation

This is a remote area with limited services and potentially limited cell coverage. The Upper Lake access road is associated with ongoing water-security infrastructure work, including the Upper Lake weir/dam project. Previous Gitga’at notices have specifically restricted access to the road during project work. Check current local notices and obtain authorization before visiting. Be prepared for wet, muddy and uneven terrain, changing weather, and wildlife including bears. Respect Gitga’at lands, cultural values, posted closures, and all active work areas.
