About This Trail

Maroon Mountain Trail is a challenging backcountry route north of Terrace that climbs through forest toward subalpine and alpine terrain. The trail follows an old mining route and becomes steeper as it approaches the alpine. Higher sections provide impressive views over the Kalum Valley, Kitsumkalum Lake area and surrounding mountain ranges. The route is also used by hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel north on the Nisga'a Highway. Turn onto Wesach Creek Road near Maroon Creek and follow the signs toward the Maroon Mountain trail access. The forestry road can be rough and may be gated, so check current access conditions before travelling and do not bypass locked gates.

Parking

Parking is available near the Maroon Mountain trailhead, with limited space. If the access road is gated or conditions prevent driving farther, park only in a safe, permitted location without blocking the road or forestry access.

Safety & Preparation

This is a hard and steep backcountry route with sections of demanding climbing. Conditions can be muddy or rough in the lower forest and cold or snowy in the alpine, even during summer. Recent trail reports have noted muddy sections, overgrown areas and fallen trees. Carry an offline map, appropriate footwear, extra layers and sufficient food and water. Be prepared for limited cell service and changing mountain weather. Stay on the established trail, be wildlife aware, and use extra caution on steep descents.
