Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel west on Highway 16 toward Prince Rupert and follow the signed access road to Shames Mountain Ski Area. Continue to the main base area and lodge. South Paw is accessed from the ski-area lift and trail network rather than from a separate hiking trailhead.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Shames Mountain base area near the lodge. Use designated parking areas and follow any seasonal directions provided by ski-area staff.

Safety & Preparation

South Paw is rated More Difficult and is intended for skiers and snowboarders with appropriate intermediate skills. Snow and visibility can change quickly, and conditions may include icy, uneven or variable terrain. Stay on designated open runs, obey signs and closures, and maintain control around other users. Areas beyond the marked ski-area boundary are not patrolled. Uphill users must also follow Shames Mountain's current uphill-access requirements and designated routes.
