This is a challenging backcountry route with steep and rugged terrain. The upper section beyond the sub-alpine ridge is not well marked, so an offline map and reliable navigation are recommended. The access road may have washouts, fallen trees, stream crossings and other obstacles. Weather can change quickly in the alpine, and snow may remain at higher elevations outside summer. Be alert for wildlife, including bears, and carry sufficient water, food and emergency supplies. Old mining areas may contain hazardous remnants, so do not enter shafts or unstable structures.
