About This Trail

A challenging mountain trail on Sleeping Beauty Mountain near Terrace. The route climbs through forest toward subalpine meadows and small alpine ponds, with panoramic views over Terrace and Kitsumkalum Lake. The trail becomes steeper and more demanding as it gains elevation.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel west on Highway 16, cross the Kitsumkalum River, and turn north onto the West Kalum Forest Service Road. Follow the signs toward Sleeping Beauty and continue onto Erlandsen Forest Service Road. The final approach uses a rough, deactivated logging road; check current road conditions before driving to the trailhead.

Parking

Parking is limited near the trailhead. If the final section of the access road is unsuitable, park at the lower designated/unofficial parking area and continue on foot. Do not block the Forest Service Road or access for other vehicles. 

Safety & Preparation

  • This is a hard/challenging hike with steep climbing and rugged terrain.
  • The upper sections can have mud, wet ground, snow, and changing weather conditions.
  • Stay on the established route, particularly around subalpine meadows and ponds.
  • The access roads can be rough and are not maintained like normal public roads.
  • Be prepared for limited cell service and carry an offline map.
  • Be bear aware and follow appropriate wildlife precautions.
  • Allow sufficient time and carry water, food, and suitable footwear.
