About This Trail

Kitselas Canyon is a National Historic Site of Canada and an important cultural site of the Gitselasu (Kitselas) people. The Canyon Trail passes through a moss-covered forest, with interpretive displays and four clan crest poles before reaching a viewing platform overlooking the Skeena River. The site has been home to the Kitselas people for thousands of years.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel east on Highway 16 and look for the Kitselas Canyon sign. Turn into Gitaus and follow the road to the Canyon entrance. The trail begins near the interpretive centre.

Parking

Parking is available at the Kitselas Canyon visitor area near the interpretive centre. Follow posted parking instructions and keep access areas clear.

  • The trail is generally gentle, but sections may be uneven, muddy, or slippery.
  • The viewing platform is reached by stairs and may not be accessible to all visitors.
  • Stay on designated paths and use caution near the canyon and river.
