About This Trail

Howe Creek Trail is an easy urban walking trail in Terrace that follows the scenic Howe Creek through a forested setting. The trail features a hard-packed dirt and gravel surface with several wooden bridges and connects with neighbourhood access points. It is suitable for walking, jogging, and casual nature viewing.

Getting There

Directions

There are several access points. A main entrance is at Christy Park, where the trail begins near the north end of the park's parking lot, behind the clubhouse. Another access is from the Lanfear area, with additional connections from surrounding residential streets. 

Parking

Parking is available at Christy Park, near the Sparks Street trailhead. Additional street parking may be available near other access points, but avoid blocking driveways or residential access. 

Safety & Preparation

  • The trail is generally easy and suitable for casual walking.
  • Expect dirt, gravel, wooden bridges, roots, and potentially muddy or slippery areas after rain.
  • Use caution around Howe Creek and bridge crossings.
  • The trail passes through residential areas, so watch for vehicles when crossing or entering streets.
  • Bears and other wildlife may occasionally be present; maintain a safe distance and keep food secured.
  • Dogs must be kept on leash on City of Terrace trails.
  • Check for temporary construction or maintenance closures before visiting, as improvements have periodically affected sections of the Howe Creek network.
