The route is popular for hiking, walking, birding, and enjoying the views. The trail network is shared with mountain bikers in some areas, so hikers should follow posted signs and stay alert at trail junctions.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, access the Terrace Mountain trail network through the established trailheads around Johnstone Street and Walsh Avenue. The City of Terrace identifies Johnstone and Munthe as Terrace Mountain trailheads. Follow the signed hiking route toward Terrace Mountain and Flathead, using the current trail map at junctions. 

Parking

Parking is available near the Terrace Mountain trail access on Johnstone Street. The City has recently improved the parking area near the Johnstone Street trailhead.

Safety & Preparation

  • Expect rocky, root-covered, and uneven sections with moderate climbs.
  • Some portions of the network are shared with mountain bikers; watch for riders, particularly near Flathead.
  • Follow the hiking signs and stay on the designated route.
  • Trails can become muddy, slippery, icy, or snow-covered depending on conditions.
  • Watch for bears and other wildlife.
  • Carry an offline map or GPS because the network contains multiple trail junctions.
  • Use extra caution during wet or winter conditions.
