About This Trail

Ferry Island is a scenic community campground and nature park along the Skeena River near Terrace. The park features an easy walking trail network through forest and along the island perimeter, with riverside views, unique tree carvings, picnic areas, a playground, and access to the river. It is suitable for families, casual walkers, and visitors looking for a relaxing nature walk close to town.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, take Highway 16 toward the east side of town and follow the signs for Ferry Island. Enter the Ferry Island Campground and Nature Park at the main entrance. The walking trails begin within the park and connect with the campground and riverside areas.

Parking

Parking is available within the Ferry Island campground and park area. Follow posted parking signs and avoid blocking campground roads, access points, or other vehicles. 

Safety & Preparation

  • Stay on established trails and follow posted signs or temporary closures.
  • The park is beside the Skeena River; use caution near the riverbank, especially with children.
  • Forested areas may have fallen branches, uneven ground, and slippery conditions.
  • Dogs must be leashed in the campground, playground, and parking areas. Off-leash access is permitted in designated areas south of the power lines.
  • Watch for wildlife and avoid approaching or feeding animals.
  • River levels and conditions can change, particularly after heavy rain or flooding.
