About This Trail

Hai Lake is a peaceful forest-surrounded lake within Hai Lake–Mount Herman Park, southwest of Terrace, British Columbia. The lake is a popular destination for hiking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and enjoying the surrounding wilderness. A trail from the lake provides access toward Herman Lake, making Hai Lake a useful starting point for exploring the park.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel southwest via Queensway Drive and continue toward the Terrace Airport. Take Beam Station Road and follow it south toward the South Thunderbird Forest Service Road. Continue along the forest service road to the turnaround and parking area near the Hai Lake trailhead.

Parking

Parking is available at the turnaround near the Hai Lake access trail. The access road is a forest service road and can be rough, particularly after rain. Use the designated turnaround/parking area and avoid blocking the road.

Safety & Preparation

  • The access road can be rough and muddy, especially after wet weather.
  • Parts of the trail around Hai Lake can become wet, muddy, or overgrown.
  • Bears and other wildlife may be present; keep food and garbage securely stored.
  • There are no lifeguards at the lake.
  • Use caution around the shoreline, wetlands, and slippery sections.
  • Bring offline navigation, water, food, and basic emergency supplies.
  • Weather can change quickly, so be prepared for changing conditions.
  • If continuing toward Herman Lake, be aware that the connecting trail may be less clearly maintained.
