Getting There

Directions

From Kitimat, travel north on Highway 37 toward Terrace. The Onion Lake Ski Trails are located approximately 29 km north of Kitimat, where the Wedeene Forest Service Road meets Highway 37. Follow the signed entrance to the ski trail facility and stadium. The West Loop begins from the main trail network.

Parking

Parking is available at Onion Lake Cross Country Ski Trails near the main stadium and trailhead. The facility provides parking and washroom facilities for trail users. Parking conditions can depend on winter weather and snow-clearing operations.

Safety & Preparation

  • This is primarily a cross-country ski trail network; follow posted trail-use rules and give way appropriately to skiers.
  • Winter conditions can change quickly. Check current trail and weather conditions before travelling.
  • Stay on the designated West Loop and follow trail markers at junctions.
  • Snow, ice, wet ground, and slippery roots can make conditions challenging outside the winter season.
  • Wildlife, including bears, may be present in the surrounding forest.
  • The trails are not patrolled; tell someone your plans and avoid travelling alone.
  • Keep away from lakes when ice conditions are uncertain.
  • Pack out all garbage and respect the trail system and surrounding environment.
