Getting There

Directions

From Kitimat, travel north on Highway 37 for approximately 29 km to the turnoff at the Onion Lake Ski Trails. Turn west onto the Wedeene Mainline and continue for about 4.5 km. Turn right onto the Lakelse Main Forest Service Road and continue approximately 3.5 km. Turn left, then after about 0.5 km turn left again. Follow the road for approximately 1.5 km to West Lake Recreation Site.

Parking

Parking is available at the West Lake Recreation Site, near the two rustic camping spots. Facilities are limited, so visitors should not expect a developed parking lot or full campground services.

Safety & Preparation

  • Access is via forest service roads, which can be rough, muddy, or affected by weather.
  • Watch for logging and industrial traffic on active forestry roads.
  • Bring appropriate supplies because this is a rustic, remote recreation site with limited facilities.
  • Be prepared for changing weather and wet conditions.
  • Bears and other wildlife may be present; store food securely and maintain a safe distance from wildlife.
  • Cell service may be limited or unavailable, so consider carrying offline maps and emergency equipment.
