About This Lake

Lakelse Lake is a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by forests and rugged coastal scenery. Its calm waters and nearby recreation areas make it a popular destination for boating, fishing, camping, swimming, and enjoying the natural landscape of the Kitimat Valley.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel south on Highway 37 toward Kitimat. Lakelse Lake Park is approximately 20 km south of Terrace and 40 km north of Kitimat. The park has three main access areas: Furlong Bay Campground, Lakelse Picnic Site, and Gruchy’s Beach.

For Gruchy’s Beach, continue approximately 14 km from the Highway 16/37 junction. The Lakelse Picnic Site is approximately 15 km from the junction, while Furlong Bay Campground is approximately 19 km from the junction.

Parking

Parking is available at the designated parking areas at Furlong Bay Campground, Lakelse Picnic Site, and Gruchy’s Beach. Use designated parking areas and keep vehicles off trails and other restricted areas.

Safety & Preparation

  • Keep to designated trails and obey posted signs.
  • The area has bears and other wildlife; store food securely and follow wildlife-safety practices.
  • When boating, kayaking, or canoeing, be aware that weather and water conditions can change quickly.
  • There are no lifeguards at the swimming areas. Water can remain cool even during summer.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash and are not permitted on beach areas or inside park buildings.
  • If fishing, ensure you have the required British Columbia fishing licence and follow current regulations.
