About This Lake

Jesse Lake is a long, narrow glacial lake located southeast of Kitimat in the Douglas Channel area. The lake stretches about 9.3 km and is surrounded by steep, forested terrain. Its waters drain through Jesse Creek and over Jesse Falls, a roughly 10-metre waterfall that drops directly into Kitimat Arm of the Douglas Channel.

Fishing Regulations

Getting There

Directions

From Kitimat, follow Highway 37 toward Kitamaat Village and access the local forestry-road network toward the Jesse Lake area. The trailhead is reached by resource roads, so access conditions can vary. Confirm current road conditions before travelling, as forestry roads may be affected by weather, logging activity, or seasonal restrictions. 

Parking

Parking is available near the Jesse Lake Trailhead, but facilities are limited and this is a backcountry access point rather than a developed parking area. Park well off the active roadway and do not block forestry or industrial traffic.

Safety & Preparation

  • Jesse Lake is a remote backcountry area with limited facilities.
  • Forestry roads may have active industrial traffic; drive slowly and yield appropriately.
  • Roads can become rough, muddy, or difficult after heavy rain or during poor weather.
  • Bears and other wildlife are present. Carry bear spray, make noise, and store food securely.
  • Bring a map/navigation device, sufficient water, food, and emergency supplies.
  • Weather can change quickly; be prepared for wet and cool conditions.
  • Do not paddle close to Jesse Falls. The falls drop approximately 10 m directly from Jesse Lake toward the Douglas Channel, and BC Parks specifically advises avoiding the area near the falls.
  • If visiting Jesse Falls Protected Area, note that access is by boat only.
