About This Trail

Robinson Ridge Trail is a challenging backcountry route through the forested mountains above Kitimat. The trail passes through a mixture of open marshes and timbered forest, with several steep sections along the climb. The route eventually reaches the Robinson Ridge Cabin, situated beside a small sub-alpine lake. Higher sections provide scenic views toward the Kitimat Valley and surrounding mountains. The trail is best suited to experienced hikers prepared for remote and rugged conditions.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Getting There

Directions

From Kitimat, follow Forest Avenue and continue onto the South Hirsch Forest Service Road. Follow the South Hirsch main road toward the Robinson Ridge area. Access to the trailhead is via a branch road; a 4WD/high-clearance vehicle is recommended because some sections of the access road are steep and have loose rock.

Parking

Parking is available near the Robinson Ridge trailhead. If the access road is not suitable for your vehicle, park safely along the approach road without blocking forestry access, gates, or other vehicles. Be aware that the surrounding forest-service roads may be used by industrial and recreational traffic.

Safety & Preparation

  • This is a difficult to advanced backcountry trail and is recommended for experienced hikers.
  • Expect steep pitches, muddy sections, marshy ground, roots, and uneven terrain.
  • Forest-service road access can be rough and may require a high-clearance or 4WD vehicle.
  • Weather can change quickly, particularly around the ridge and sub-alpine areas.
  • Snow and wet conditions can make the route significantly more difficult.
  • Be bear aware and secure food and garbage.
  • Cell service may be limited or unavailable.
  • Carry a GPS/map, sufficient water, food, first-aid supplies, and emergency equipment.
  • Tell someone your planned route and expected return time before starting.
  • The Robinson Ridge Cabin is a backcountry facility; do not rely on it as your only emergency shelter or supply source.
