About This Trail

Clague Mountain Cabin is a rustic backcountry cabin located along the Clague Mountain route, providing an overnight destination in the Kitimat Range. The route climbs through forest toward alpine terrain, with the cabin offering a peaceful base surrounded by wilderness and mountain scenery. The cabin is associated with the Kitimat Snowmobile & Hikers Club and is used by hikers and winter recreationists.

Getting There

Directions

From the Kitimat Service Centre, travel north along Enterprise Avenue to the Wedeene Mainline Forestry Road. Continue approximately 1 km along the mainline, then turn left onto the side road and follow it for approximately 2 km to the Clague Mountain trailhead. The access road can be rough. A gate is located approximately 0.5 km from the trailhead during summer months to restrict motorized access.

Parking

Parking is available at the Clague Mountain trailhead/parking area. If the seasonal gate is closed, park without blocking the gate or forestry-road access. The area is remote, so make sure your vehicle is parked securely and does not obstruct other users.

Safety & Preparation

  • This is a remote backcountry destination and requires good preparation.
  • The approach is steep and physically demanding, particularly for hikers carrying overnight equipment.
  • Forest-service roads can be rough and may be used by industrial or recreational vehicles.
  • Weather can change rapidly, particularly at higher elevations.
  • Snow and winter conditions can create avalanche and navigation hazards.
  • Bears and other wildlife may be present; secure food and garbage and never approach wildlife.
  • Cell service may be limited or unavailable.
  • Carry a map/GPS, sufficient food and water, first-aid equipment, and emergency supplies.
  • If staying overnight, leave the cabin clean and ready for the next visitors. The cabin is described as first-come, first-served.
  • Check current access and trail conditions before starting.
