About This Trail

Moore Creek Falls is a very short waterfall walk just south of Kitimat, near the Rio Tinto BC Works site. The falls are reached by a short approach from the road followed by a steep staircase carved into the hillside. The rushing creek and surrounding coastal forest make this a popular quick stop and photography spot. The waterfall is particularly impressive during periods of snowmelt or after heavy rain.

Getting There

Directions

From Kitimat, travel south toward the Rio Tinto BC Works area. Moore Creek Falls is located approximately 100 m from Alcan Road, across from the Rio Tinto BC Works main office area. Look for the roadside access/pullout near the falls.

Parking

There is a small roadside pullout/parking area near the access to the falls. Recent visitor reports describe parking as a quick roadside stop. Do not block the road or industrial access routes. 

Safety & Preparation

  • The staircase is steep and can be slippery, especially when wet.
  • Use the handrails and take extra care when descending.
  • Stay on the established viewing route and do not climb above or around the waterfall.
  • Avoid entering the creek or pools. The creek environment is sensitive and supports fish habitat.
  • Water levels can rise quickly following heavy rain or during snowmelt.
  • Be particularly cautious around wet rocks and the edge of the falls.
  • The falls are located on/near Rio Tinto private lands, so visitors should follow any posted access restrictions and signage.
  • Be aware of industrial traffic in the surrounding area.
