About This Trail

A short, easy trail that meanders across the rugged lava flats before reaching a viewing platform overlooking the Nass River. From the viewpoint, enjoy a scenic perspective across the river toward Gitwinksihlkw, surrounded by the dramatic volcanic landscape of the Nass Valley. The trail is suitable for hikers and can be traveled in either direction.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel north on Highway 113 (Nisg̱a’a Highway) toward the Nass Valley and continue toward Gitwinksihlkw. The trail is located near the lava flats and Nass River, with the trailhead at approximately 55.191900, -129.221670. Follow local trail signage and use established access routes.

Parking

Parking is available near the trail access area. Use designated roadside or trailhead parking and avoid blocking access roads or nearby properties.

Safety & Preparation

  • Lava rock can be sharp, loose, and unstable, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
  • Stay on the established trail and viewing platform to help protect the fragile lava landscape.
  • Use extra caution near the Nass River and steep or uneven edges.
  • Watch for wildlife, including bears and other animals found throughout the area.
  • Conditions can change quickly; carry water and be prepared for wet weather.
  • Respect the cultural significance of the Nisg̱a’a Lands and leave the area as you found it.
