About This Trail

Saasak' Hill Green MTB Loop is the easiest mountain bike loop in the Saasak' Hill trail network and is a great choice for riders looking to build confidence and improve their basic trail skills. Mountain bikers should ride the loop in a counter-clockwise direction only, while hikers are welcome to travel in either direction.

The climb is approachable, and the downhill section is the easiest riding in the area. Although relatively mellow, it still includes a few minor features that add variety and give newer riders an opportunity to practice cornering, braking, balance, and bike control. The trail provides an excellent introduction to the Saasak' Hill network and is a good progression option before moving on to the more challenging Blue MTB Loop and Leaping Lizard trails.

Because the trail is shared with hikers, cyclists should ride responsibly and communicate when approaching other users. Hikers are encouraged to be considerate and make room for uphill cyclists where practical.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Getting There

Directions

From Terrace, travel north toward the Nass Valley on Highway 113 (Nisg̱a’a Highway). Continue to Gitwinksihlkw and follow local signs toward the Ts’oohl Ts’ap Recreation Centre, near the entrance to the Saasak' Hill trail network.

From the recreation-centre area, follow the signed trail access into the Saasak' Hill network. Look for the trail signage indicating the Green MTB Loop and follow the designated counter-clockwise route. A trail map or GPS map is recommended when navigating the network, particularly at junctions with the Blue Loop and other connecting trails.

Parking

Parking is available near the Ts’oohl Ts’ap Recreation Centre, which provides access to the Saasak' Hill trail network. Park in designated areas and avoid blocking recreation-centre entrances, roads, gates, or access routes.

Be respectful of the local community and other visitors, particularly during busy periods when parking may be limited.

Safety & Preparation

  • Bike direction: Mountain bikers should ride the Green MTB Loop counter-clockwise only.
  • Hikers: Hikers may travel in either direction but should be aware of approaching cyclists.
  • Yield on climbs: Hikers are encouraged to make room for uphill cyclists where practical. Cyclists should still slow down and yield whenever necessary.
  • Beginner-friendly: This is the easiest downhill route in the Saasak' Hill area, making it suitable for riders developing their mountain biking skills.
  • Minor features: Expect a few small features and changes in terrain. Ride within your ability and do not attempt features you are uncomfortable with.
  • Shared trail: Watch for hikers and other trail users, particularly around corners, junctions, and narrow sections.
  • Wet conditions: Rain can make roots, rocks, soil, and other trail surfaces slippery. Adjust your speed and riding accordingly.
  • Controlled speed: Even on easier terrain, maintain enough control to stop safely when encountering another trail user.
  • Weather: Conditions in the Nass Valley can change quickly. Bring suitable clothing, water, and basic trail essentials.
  • Wildlife: Be aware that the trail passes through a natural forest environment and wildlife may be present.
  • Respect Nisg̱a’a Lands: Stay on designated trails, follow posted signs and directional requirements, and respect the land and surrounding community.
  • Progression: The Green MTB Loop is an excellent starting point before progressing to the more technical Blue MTB Loop and eventually the Leaping Lizard trails.
  • Safety gear: A properly fitted helmet is recommended for all cyclists, along with additional protective equipment appropriate for your experience and riding conditions.
