Getting There

Directions

The Kaien Trail Loop is located on Kaien Island in the Prince Rupert area. Access to the island's trail network is primarily via Highway 16, with several trailheads and connecting routes throughout the area. Because the Kaien Island trail network includes both established and less-formally maintained trails, use a GPS/offline trail map to locate the specific loop entrance. The City notes that many trails across Kaien Island are nature trails that may not be formally designated or regularly maintained. 

Parking

Parking depends on the specific access point used for the loop. Use designated trailhead parking or safe, legal roadside parking where available. Do not block Highway 16, private driveways, gates, or maintenance/emergency access. Trailhead parking can be limited, so arrive prepared to walk a short distance to the trail entrance.

Safety & Preparation

Trail conditions can vary considerably because some Kaien Island trails are not formally designated or regularly maintained.

Expect mud, exposed roots, wet ground, uneven terrain, and slippery sections, especially after rainfall.

Carry a GPS/offline map and avoid relying solely on trail markers or informal flagging.
