About This Trail

Tucked deep in the backroads north of Smithers, Morin Lake is one of those quiet, hidden gems that feels like it’s frozen in time. Surrounded by towering evergreens and reflecting the evening sky, this peaceful little lake was first opened up in the 1970s by Dick Kronemeyer, a Dutch logging contractor who built the original road and camp here with Kronemeyer Logging. What began as a logging site slowly transformed into one of the most beautiful small camping and fishing spots in the Bulkley Valley β€” a legacy that still stands strong today. The BC Forest Service later added a dock, picnic tables, and campsites, keeping the rustic charm alive. It’s a great place to cast a line for Cutthroat Trout, most of them small but spirited, perfect for pan-frying right at camp. With only a few sites and no fees, Morin Lake remains as quiet and genuine as the day it was built. So come along for a sunset cast β€” just the sound of the water, the call of the loons, and a piece of local history preserved in the heart of northern BC. Facilities: β€’ Wharf βœ” β€’ Boat Launch βœ” β€’ Tables βœ” β€’ Toilets βœ” β€’ Campsites (3) β€’ No Fees Maintained by BC Forest Service Fish Species: Cutthroat Trout (fry-pan size)

Directions: From Smithers, drive 38 km on Babine Lake Road, turn left at the Chapman Lake junction, then continue 14.5 km on Upper Fulton Road β€” watch for signs on the left.

Safety & Preparation

Morin Lake is a remote recreation site with limited facilities and no cell service. The access road beyond Chapman Lake can be rough, especially after rain β€” a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Campsites are small and not suitable for large RVs or trailers. Fishing regulations and limits for Cutthroat Trout may change; always check the BC Freshwater Fishing Regulations before your trip. Be prepared for wildlife encounters, carry bear spray, and pack out all garbage to keep this quiet spot as pristine as it was meant to be.
