About This Trail

This hike provides access to a large alpine area, with sweeping views across the surrounding peaks and valleys. It's one of the more rewarding alpine destinations in the region for hikers looking to get above treeline.

The Bulkley Valley Backpackers site (bvbackpackers.ca) also references a Caribou South Trail, though there's no recent record of anyone having hiked it. A crossover from North to South is not recommended at this time β€” treat the two as separate, unconnected routes until the South side has been scouted and confirmed.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Getting There

Safety & Preparation

Alpine terrain β€” weather can change rapidly above treeline; carry layers and be prepared to turn back

Do not attempt to cross over from North to South Caribou β€” the South Trail is unconfirmed and not currently recommended for travel

Carry a map/GPS and don't rely solely on the North Trail being marked the whole way, if that's the case for this route

Bear country β€” carry bear spray and make noise; this is standard for most Bulkley Valley alpine access routes

Cell coverage is likely limited or absent in this area β€” let someone know your plans and expected return time

Check current conditions/closures before heading out, especially early/late season for snow
