About This Trail

The Rotary Trail is a popular multi-use hiking and mountain biking trail in the Smithers area that climbs through mixed boreal and subalpine forest to the base of the Skyline Triple Chair at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort. The trail gains over 600 m of elevation and delivers expansive views of Smithers, the Bulkley Valley, and surrounding peaks. It is a well-established community trail maintained in part by the Smithers Rotary Club and local trail associations. Located within the traditional territory of the Wet'suwet'en people.

Getting There

Directions

The Rotary Trail trailhead is accessed from Smithers via Ski Hill Road. Look for the signed trailhead near the lower slopes of Hudson Bay Mountain, before reaching the main resort lot. Trailhead is approximately 5 km from downtown Smithers.

Parking

A dedicated trailhead pullout is available at the bottom of the Rotary Trail with space for 6–8 vehicles. Overflow parking is available at the resort base lot further up Ski Hill Road.

Safety & Preparation

Bears are frequently encountered on this trail — carry bear spray and travel in groups when possible. The upper section near the chairlift can retain snow until late spring. Wear layers as temperatures drop significantly with elevation gain.
