About This Trail

Stones Throw is a short, machine-groomed green connector on Mount Harry Davis that punches well above its 174 m length in terms of usefulness. Opened in 2019, it bridges the lower end of the Sticks'n'Stones blue trail — with its wide-open valley views — to Padawan, the network's classic green climb and descent trail. The result is a natural loop that works in all seasons: a flowing summer bike connector, an early-season option when the upper mountain is still locked in, and a legitimate fat bike or snowshoe loop in winter. Machine-built with a few easy corners, a gentle -3.4% average grade, and rideable even in the rain, Stones Throw is exactly what a good connector trail should be — simple, purposeful, and quietly essential to how the whole network flows.

Getting There

Directions

Mount Harry Davis is located just 1 km east of Houston. From town, head east on Highway 16, then follow the signs up to Mount Harry Davis. Stones Throw starts or ends at the Family Centre lot — follow the road signs and Trailforks waypoints up to the parking area. The trail is clearly signed from the lot.

Parking

Park at the Family Centre lot on Mount Harry Davis, which serves as the primary staging area for the middle portion of the trail network. This is the most convenient lot for accessing Stones Throw, Padawan – Lower, and the lower end of Sticks'n'Stones. The lot is unpaved gravel with no current parking fees. Space is limited on summer weekends — arrive early or consider the lower lot as an overflow option.

Safety & Preparation

Watch for uphill traffic. The trail description explicitly calls this out — Stones Throw is used in both directions as part of loop routes. Ride in control and be alert for riders or snowshoers coming the other way, especially on the corners.

Machine groomed — rideable in rain. This trail is designated ride-in-rain, but wet corners on groomed trail can still be slippery. Reduce speed accordingly.

Winter use. Stones Throw is a designated fat bike and snowshoe trail in winter. Be aware of and courteous to snowshoers sharing the trail during colder months.

Short but part of a larger loop. Riders using this as a connector should be familiar with where it deposits them — onto Padawan or lower Sticks'n'Stones — and plan their route accordingly.

Wildlife: Bear country year-round. Make noise, especially during early morning and evening rides.

Helmets required for all riders. Family-friendly and suitable for young riders, but basic bike control is expected on the corners.

Indigenous territory: This trail sits on the traditional lands of the Wet'suwet'en Yintikh, Takla, and Dënéndeh peoples. Ride respectfully.
