About This Trail

Twisted Metal is a short, sharp black diamond descent on the upper reaches of Mount Harry Davis, above Houston, BC. At just 557 m long but dropping 66 m with a max gradient of nearly 53%, this trail wastes no time making its intentions clear. It's the steepest, most committing line in the Mount Harry Davis network — raw singletrack that pitches hard and stays technical from start to finish. A DH bike is the recommended tool, and the name isn't ironic. Opened in 2015 and sitting at the top of the mountain above 1,025 m, Twisted Metal is for riders who've earned their way up and are ready to send it back down. Average ride time clocks in around 4–5 minutes — short but intense, with nothing casual about any of it.

Getting There

Directions

From Houston, BC, head south on Butler Avenue and turn onto Harry Davis Way toward Mount Harry Davis. Follow the gravel forest service road all the way up to the upper mountain network — Twisted Metal sits near the top of the trail system at approximately 1,025 m (3,363 ft) elevation. Access is via shuttle or by climbing one of the designated uphill routes. The trailhead is marked within the upper network junction; follow signage on the mountain.

Parking

Park at the main Mount Harry Davis trailhead lot off Harry Davis Way. For a shuttle setup — strongly recommended given the trail's position high on the mountain — drop riders at the upper FSR access point and park at the lower lot. Twisted Metal deposits riders near the 958 m (3,143 ft) mark, close to where Sticks'n'Stones also terminates. Both lots are unpaved gravel with no current parking fees. Space is limited on busy summer weekends.

Safety & Preparation

Black diamond — advanced riders only. With a max pitch approaching 53% and sustained technical terrain, Twisted Metal is not appropriate for beginner or intermediate riders. Honest self-assessment required before dropping in.

Downhill only. Do not attempt to climb this trail. Use designated uphill routes to access the top of the network.

DH bike strongly recommended. The gradient and trail character demand a bike with significant travel and reliable braking. Hardtails and short-travel bikes are not well-suited to this trail.

Shuttle access advised. The trail sits high on the mountain — plan your access accordingly and confirm your shuttle logistics before heading up.

No grooming. Twisted Metal is natural singletrack. Expect variable surface conditions including loose rock, exposed roots, and debris — particularly early and late in the season.

Conditions can change rapidly. Rain makes steep singletrack significantly more dangerous. Check Trailforks trail reports before riding.

Wildlife: Upper mountain terrain is prime bear habitat. Make noise and carry bear spray.

Full protective gear required. Full-face helmet, knee and shin pads, elbow pads, and body armour are strongly recommended.

Cell coverage is limited or absent at elevation. Ride with a partner and have a plan if something goes wrong.

Indigenous territory: This trail sits on the traditional lands of the Wet'suwet'en Yintikh, Takla, and Dënéndeh peoples. Ride respectfully.

Trail stewardship: Maintained by the Houston Mountain Bike Association. Report hazards via Trailforks.
