About This Trail

Padawan – Lower is the bottom segment of the beloved Padawan trail on Mount Harry Davis, just outside Houston, BC. Machine-groomed and blue-rated, it's one of the most welcoming intermediate trails in the Bulkley Valley — a flowing downhill run packed with friendly berms and tabletop features that invite progression without punishing mistakes. Whether you're a newer rider building confidence or a seasoned shredder warming up for a longer lap, Padawan – Lower delivers a satisfying, well-paced descent with a consistent rhythm from top to bottom. Opened in 2018 and maintained by the Houston Mountain Bike Association, it's earned its place as a local favourite and a go-to trail for families and riders of all ages.

Getting There

Directions

From Houston, BC, head south on Butler Avenue and turn onto Harry Davis Way toward Mount Harry Davis. Continue past the bottom trailhead parking lot where the trails terminate — carry on approximately 1 km up the road and turn right toward the Family Centre. The Padawan – Lower trailhead is located at the Family Centre. Signage along the road guides you up to the right spot.

Parking

Park at the Family Centre lot near the upper trailhead. This is the primary staging area for Padawan and the surrounding green and blue trails on the lower mountain. The lot is unpaved gravel and has room for a small number of vehicles. A secondary lot is located at the bottom of the trail network, roughly 1 km down the road — useful if you're shuttling or finishing your descent there. No parking fees currently apply. Arrive early on summer weekends as both lots fill up quickly.

Safety & Preparation

Downhill only. Padawan – Lower is one-directional. Do not ride uphill on this trail — use a designated climbing route or the road to return to the top.

Jumps and berms present. The trail features tabletops and banked corners. Beginners should ride within their ability and scout features before hitting them at speed.

All-season trail — but early spring and after heavy rain can leave the surface soft or slippery. Check current conditions on Trailforks before riding.

Wildlife: Mount Harry Davis is in bear country. Make noise, carry bear spray, and be especially alert in low-visibility corners.

Helmets required. Knee and elbow pads recommended, particularly for younger or newer riders on the jump features.

Indigenous territory: This trail sits on the traditional lands of the Wet'suwet'en Yintikh, Takla, and Dënéndeh peoples. Ride respectfully.

Trail stewardship: Maintained by the Houston Mountain Bike Association. Report any hazards or downed trees via Trailforks.
