About This Lake

The second-longest lake in BC β€” 25,750 ha, up to 87 m (280 ft) deep. Francois Lake Provincial Park protects 25 km of coniferous shoreline. Part of the 3.5-hour Francois Lake Circle Tour. Significant First Nations history. Moose winter habitat. Stunning Tweedsmuir Park mountain views.

Getting There

Directions

From Houston, take Hwy 16 west then south on Morice River FSR. Rec sites along route: Aspen Rec Site, Owen Flats (x2), Owen Lake, West Francois, Noralee West, Colleymount. For the provincial park, it is ~12 km from Hwy 16 southwest of Fraser Lake via Hwy 35.

Parking

Individual rec sites along the lakeshore. Public boat launch at Sawmill Point Rec Site (east end).

Safety & Preparation

  • No potable water in the provincial park β€” bring your own.
  • ORVs prohibited in the provincial park.
  • Very large lake β€” weather can change rapidly when boating.
  • Stellako River outlet has special fishing restrictions β€” check regulations.
