About This Trail

The Razorback and Pigasus Loop is the ultimate Boer Mountain epic a challenging 15.3-mile (24.6km) loop rated 5.0 stars with approximately 2,916ft (889m) of elevation gain, the most of any route in the recreation site, taking 7–7.5 hours to hike or a solid half-day to ride. The route ascends the legendary 18km Razorback all-mountain trail from the Bike Park to the summit of Boer Mountain, then descends the 10km Pigasus down-country trail on the west side a flowing, scenic descent that is one of the signature experiences in Northern BC mountain biking. The full loop showcases everything the network has to offer: lake views, dense forest, sub-alpine terrain, and summit panoramas over the Lakes District. For mountain bikers this is the classic Boer Mountain day; for hikers it is a serious full-day undertaking. Located on the traditional territory of the Lake Babine Nation and Ts'il Kaz Koh.

Getting There

Directions

From Highway 16 in Burns Lake, take 5th Avenue north to Gowan Road, continue to Boer Mountain Lookout Road and turn left. Follow the road past the Bike Park to the Kager Lake Recreation Site parking area, approximately 10–15 minutes from town. Begin on the Razorback uptrack from the Bike Park/Kager Lake area and follow it to the Boer Mountain summit, then descend Pigasus on the west side to complete the loop.

Parking

Free parking at the large gravel Kager Lake Recreation Site lot (RV and trailer friendly). Free camping on site: 6 car-camping sites, 12 walk-in tent sites around the lake, outhouses, fire rings, and a canoe launch. An ideal base camp for a full Boer Mountain weekend. All services in Burns Lake.

Safety & Preparation

This is a long, demanding route — start early, carry a minimum of 2–3 litres of water, food, spare tube/repair kit (riders), and warm layers for the summit. Check trailforks.com before setting out — some trails remain closed for post-wildfire danger tree assessments and standing burnt trees can fall in wind. Do not ride in wet conditions. Bears and moose are present throughout — carry bear spray and make noise. Cell service is unreliable on the upper mountain — inform someone of your route and expected return time. The summit area is exposed to weather; conditions can change quickly.
