About This Trail

This moderate 7.5-mile (12.1km) route in the Boer Mountain Recreation Site combines the Kager Lake Trail with the lower Razorback climbing trail and the Power Line return, taking approximately 3–3.5 hours. The route circles scenic Kager Lake before climbing a section of the famous 18km Razorback all-mountain trail the backbone of the Boer Mountain network running from the Bike Park to the summit and returns via the Power Line corridor back toward Kager Lake. A great intermediate-length option for riders and hikers who want a solid workout with lake and forest scenery without committing to the full summit. Part of BC's first mountain bike park network built under the Mountain Biking on Crown Land Strategy, with trails designed by Whistler Gravity Logic, Jay Hoots, IMBA Canada, and local builders. Located on the traditional territory of the Lake Babine Nation and Ts'il Kaz Koh.

Getting There

Directions

From Highway 16 in Burns Lake, take 5th Avenue north to Gowan Road. Continue on Gowan Road until you reach Boer Mountain Lookout Road and turn left. Follow the road past the Burns Lake Mountain Bike Park to the large gravel parking lot at Kager Lake — the trailhead is on the right and Kager Lake is visible from the road. Approximately 10–15 minutes from town.

Parking

Free parking at the large gravel Kager Lake Recreation Site lot, which accommodates large RVs and trailers. The site offers free camping: 6 car-camping sites with tables and fire rings adjacent to the lot, 12 walk-in tent sites around the Kager Lake loop (including one on a small island), outhouses, and a small car-top boat launch for canoes.

Safety & Preparation

Check trailforks.com for current trail status — some Boer Mountain trails remain closed for post-wildfire danger tree assessments; obey all posted closures. The Razorback section involves sustained climbing — carry sufficient water. Mountain bikes have priority on directional bike trails; hikers should stay alert and step aside for riders. Bears and moose are present — carry bear spray and make noise. The Power Line section is exposed in hot weather — sun protection recommended. Cell service is unreliable beyond Kager Lake — inform someone of your plans.
