About This Trail

When Pigs Fly (WPF) is the signature trail of Burns Lake's Boer Mountain Recreation Site — a must-ride for every visitor to the network. Designed by Gravity Logic from Whistler Bike Park fame, WPF is a fun, flowy blue-rated descent that delivers exactly what you'd expect from a world-class trail builder: pure flow, perfectly sculpted berms, and momentum-building terrain that keeps you grinning from top to bottom. The trail is part of the descent options from the top of Boer Mountain and, together with Charlotte's Web and other trails, culminates in the spectacular Pierce Hofer Memorial — a 2,000+ square foot wall ride adjacent to the Kager Lake parking lot. The Pierce Hofer Memorial was built in memory of Pierce Hofer, a well-loved young man from the community tragically lost in a motor vehicle accident. WPF finishes via the Wee Piggy Skills Park back to the parking lot. Rated moderate. Located on the traditional territory of the Lake Babine Nation and Ts'il Kaz Koh.

Getting There

Directions

The top of When Pigs Fly is accessed via the 18km Razorback uptrack from the Kager Lake Recreation Site. From Highway 16 in Burns Lake, take 5th Avenue north to Gowan Road, turn left onto Boer Mountain Road, and follow to the Kager Lake Recreation Site parking area — approximately 10–15 minutes from Burns Lake. From Kager Lake, follow the Razorback trail to the summit of Boer Mountain, then descend via When Pigs Fly. The trail finishes at the Wee Piggy Skills Park adjacent to the Kager Lake parking lot. Parking

Free parking at the Kager Lake Recreation Site, 10–15 minutes from Burns Lake. The site features a 14-unit vehicle-accessible campground, 12 walk-in camping/picnic sites, a dock, boat launch, fire pits, outhouses, and the Wee Piggy beginner skills park. All services available in Burns Lake.

Safety & Preparation

Check trailforks.com for current open/closed trail status before visiting — some Boer Mountain trails remain closed for post-wildfire danger tree assessments; obey all posted closures. Although rated blue/moderate, WPF's speed and features require confident bike-handling skills — a helmet is mandatory and gloves and knee pads are strongly recommended. Do not ride in wet conditions. Bears are present in the area — carry bear spray when hiking or riding at Boer Mountain.
