About This Trail

Pendleton Lookout via Augler Lake is a moderate 3.2-mile (5.2km) out-and-back trail north of Burns Lake in the Babine Lake area, taking approximately 2–2.5 hours to complete. The route travels through boreal forest to reach Augler (Augier) Lake and then climbs to the Pendleton Lookout, an old fire lookout site with commanding views over the southern shores of Babine Lake British Columbia's longest natural lake at 177km and the surrounding wilderness. The area around Pendleton Bay is remote and peaceful, offering a genuine wilderness experience far from crowds. The Pendleton Bay BC Parks Marine Site at Babine Lake, nearby, offers camping, fishing, and boating. Located on the traditional territory of the Lake Babine Nation and Nadleh Whut'en First Nation.

Getting There

Directions

From Burns Lake, head north along Babine Road for 19.5km until you reach the Augier FSR junction. Turn left onto the Augier FSR and drive 4km to the Pendleton Bay Road/Augier junction. Turn right onto Pendleton Bay Road and travel north for 5.4km, then turn right onto the branch road and follow it 4.7km to the trailhead and parking area. A standard vehicle can manage this road in dry conditions; high-clearance is recommended for wet periods. Total distance from Burns Lake is approximately 34km.

Parking

 A small informal parking area is located at the end of the branch road at the trailhead. Free, no formal facilities. The nearby Pendleton Bay BC Parks site has 9 free campsites with tables, toilets, a beach, and a boat launch a great base for overnight trips. All services available in Burns Lake, approximately 34km away.

Safety & Preparation

 The access road is remote and unpaved check conditions before driving and carry a spare tire. Bears (black bear and grizzly) are present in this wilderness area carry bear spray and make noise. The trail may be overgrown or hard to follow in sections; download the GPX track before heading out. Cell service is non-existent in this area inform someone of your plans and expected return time. Best visited June through October.
