About This Trail

Peacock Falls is an impressive two step falls trucked away in a canyon and surrounded by towering balsam and spruce trees. The trail gradually goes down from the parking area and winds through the forest before the final turn to the viewpoint. The trail was originally built in 2020, but was severely damaged by the 2023 wildfire. Lots of planning, patience and work has been done to help get the trail re-established. The trail now follows a new route and is a wide machine-built trail.

Peacock Falls

Peacock Falls is an impressive two-step waterfall tucked away in a canyon and surrounded by towering balsam and spruce trees. The trail gradually descends from the parking area and winds through the forest before the final turn to the viewpoint. Along the way, it passes the old ruins of a cabin, with evidence of old mining or tie-hacking in the area — and adding to the mystery, an old wooden ladder on the opposite side of the canyon. Use caution at the viewpoint, as the slopes are steep.

Getting There

Directions


  1. From Houston, BC, drive west on Highway 16
  2. Turn onto Morice River Road
  3. Continue for about 7 km
  4. Turn onto East Peacock FSR (Forest Service Road)
  5. Follow this road south for about 5.9 km
  6. Park near the signed/unmarked trail entrance area near the canyon access point


Parking

Parking is very limited and informal:

  • Small gravel pullouts near the FSR
  • No official parking lot or facilities
  • Space for only a few vehicles
  • Used by hikers, locals, and occasional logging traffic

⚠️ Important:

  • Do not block forest service roads or gates
  • Avoid parking on soft roadside edges
  • Expect uneven ground and no signage


Safety & Preparation

Peacock Falls is a natural, undeveloped canyon trail, so conditions can be risky.

🧗 Terrain hazards:

  • Steep and slippery forest sections
  • Loose soil, roots, and exposed rocks
  • Unmarked drop-offs near canyon edges

💦 Water hazards:

  • Strong currents near the falls
  • Wet rock surfaces (very slippery year-round)
  • Sudden water level changes after rain

🌲 Navigation risks:

  • Faint or unofficial trail network
  • Easy to lose direction in dense forest
  • No maintained signage or railings

🐻 Wildlife:

  • Bear and moose country
  • Carry bear awareness and make noise
