About This Trail

A short and easy trail that is good for the whole family. The Dungate Falls are located right next to the Equity Mine Road and makes for a nice spot to stop at when out for a drive. The waterfall is best viewed in Spring when melt waters are at their peak. The waterfall dwindles in size toward the later part of the year.

Equity Ice Falls

Equity Ice Falls is not much to look at in summer just a trickle of water. However, in winter that small stream freezes over while continuing to flow beneath, creating a spectacular set of ice formations. Along the rock ledge in summer, there are also interesting features to explore such as goat trails and sleeping caves. A rough snowshoe trail marked with orange ribbon leads you to the falls.

Getting There

Directions

  1. Starting from the Houston Tourist Information building head east of Houston on Highway 16.
  2. Head East and turn right on Bulter Ave. Drive until you reach Omineca Way, turn right.
  3. Drive until you reach the Equity Mine Rd on your left.
  4. Drive up the Equity Mine Rd for approx 14.75 km.
  5. If you Reach the Husky FSR, you’ve gone too far.


Parking

Limited roadside parking is available near the trailhead. Park only in designated or established pullout areas and ensure access roads remain clear for emergency and maintenance vehicles. Do not block gates or industrial access routes.

Safety & Preparation

  • Ice conditions change daily and may become unstable during warm weather.
  • Falling ice is a significant hazard near the base of the falls.
  • Winter travel may require traction devices or snowshoes depending on conditions.
  • Avalanche hazards may exist in surrounding terrain during winter months.
  • Stay well back from cliff edges and overhanging ice formations.
  • Always check current trail, weather, and recreation advisories before visiting.
