Getting There

Directions

From Smithers, drive south on Highway 16 for approximately 3 minutes and turn left (east) onto Babine Lake Road. Follow Babine Lake Road to the Canyon Creek Trails Recreation Site — watch for the signs. The parking area and trailhead are well-marked.

Parking

A signed parking area is located at the Canyon Creek Trails Recreation Site off Babine Lake Road. Free parking. In winter a warming hut or chalet may be available. No overnight camping at the site. All services available in Smithers, just minutes away.

Safety & Preparation

In winter, trails are primarily groomed for cross-country skiing — hikers and snowshoers should stay to the sides of groomed tracks and yield to skiers. Avoid walking on ski tracks as this ruins the grooming surface. Bears (black bear and grizzly) are active in the Babine Lake Road corridor — carry bear spray and make noise, especially in the backcountry sections away from the main trails. Some backcountry trails can be wet or overgrown in summer. Cell service is limited — inform someone of your plans.
