Getting There

Directions

From Smithers town center, head south toward the Hudson Bay Mountain / Smithers Community Forest area. Most access to Aldermere Trail is through the same general trailhead system used for:

  • BV Nordic Centre area
  • Community Forest access roads
  • Bluff / Dahlie Creek trail network junctions

Drive along paved roads leaving town, then continue onto gravel forestry access roads leading toward the ski and recreation zones. Parking areas near the Nordic Centre or designated trail pullouts are commonly used starting points.

Parking

  • Main parking is typically available near the BV Nordic Centre / Community Forest access area
  • Additional pullouts may be available along forestry roads depending on season
  • Parking is generally free but limited during peak ski and hiking periods
  • Avoid blocking gates, grooming equipment routes, or logging access roads

Safety & Preparation

  • This is a multi-use trail system: expect hikers, bikers, runners, and skiers depending on season
  • Forest terrain can be uneven with roots and muddy sections after rain
  • Wildlife such as bears and moose may be present—make noise and stay alert
  • Cell service may be weak or unavailable in deeper forest sections
  • Weather can change quickly near Hudson Bay Mountain—bring layers and rain protection
  • In winter, traction gear or snowshoes may be needed depending on conditions
