About This Trail

Chris's Clamber is a short, scenic connector trail located within Ranger Park in Smithers. This trail provides a crucial link between the upper recreational areas of the park and the lower sections near the Bulkley River. It winds through a lush, forested environment and is frequently used by locals as a shortcut or as part of a larger loop incorporating the Paul Millard and Perimeter trails. The trail is characterized by a brief but steady "clamber" through the woods, offering a quick dose of nature right on the edge of town.

Safety & Preparation

Wildlife Awareness: Like all trails in the Smithers area, Ranger Park is frequented by wildlife, including black bears and occasional moose. Always stay alert and make noise, especially in the denser forested sections of the Clamber.

Slippery Conditions: The trail can become quite muddy and slippery after rainfall or during the spring melt. Sturdy footwear with good traction is recommended for the incline.

Multi-use Etiquette: This is a popular route for dog walkers and families. Please ensure dogs are under control and yield to other trail users.

River Proximity: The lower end of the trail exits near the Bulkley River; use caution near the riverbank, particularly during high-water periods in the spring.
