About This Trail

Anti Flow is a technical connector trail on The Bluff in Smithers, BC that runs opposite the typical downhill flow of the area. It is used to link different sections of the trail network and often includes short climbs, rolling terrain, and tight forest singletrack. The trail requires steady pedaling, good balance, and momentum control, especially on uneven or rooty sections where riding “against flow” makes it more physically demanding than it appears.

Leave No Trace

Please follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, stay on designated trails, respect wildlife, and be considerate of other visitors.

Anti Flow Trail

Getting There

Directions

To reach Anti Flow, travel from Smithers toward The Bluff recreation area via Highway 16 and enter the Hudson Bay Mountain trail system. From the main Bluff parking area, ride up Bluff Road into the mid-to-upper network. The trail is accessed through junctions connecting trails such as Upper Anti Flow, Meanstreak, Broken Axe, and other Bluff connectors.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Bluff recreation area parking lot at the base of the trail system. Additional roadside pullouts may be available, but vehicles must not block gates, logging roads, or emergency access routes. Parking can be limited during busy riding days.

Safety & Preparation

Anti Flow includes natural terrain with roots, loose dirt, and short climbs that can be more challenging than expected. Riders should be aware of intersecting trails and potential two-way traffic since it is a connector route. Wet conditions can significantly reduce traction and increase difficulty. Helmets are recommended.
