It is known for its tight, twisting layout through dense forest with a mix of roots, rocks, and quick direction changes. The trail keeps riders on edge with its “always-on” feel, requiring constant braking control and precise line choice. It’s often used as part of a larger loop or as a connector between upper Bluff trails.

Getting There

Directions

To reach Nervous Shakedown, travel from Smithers toward The Bluff recreation area via Highway 16 and follow access roads into the Hudson Bay Mountain trail system. From the main Bluff parking area, ride up Bluff Road or connecting climb trails into the mid-to-upper network. The trail is accessed through junctions connecting nearby Bluff routes such as Skitzo, Penetralia, and Meanstreak.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Bluff recreation area parking lot at the base of the trail system. Additional roadside pullouts may exist, but vehicles must not block gates, logging roads, or emergency access routes. Parking can be limited during peak riding days.

Safety & Preparation

Nervous Shakedown features tight, technical terrain with roots, rocks, and sudden turns that can catch riders off guard. The trail can become slippery in wet conditions and has limited visibility in forested sections. Riders should maintain control and be alert for intersections with other trails. Helmets are strongly recommended.
