Skitzo is a steep, aggressive downhill trail on The Bluff in Smithers, BC. It is known for its unpredictable and highly technical character, with tight switchbacks, exposed roots, rock sections, and sudden changes in gradient. The trail demands constant focus and precise bike handling, making it one of the more challenging “expert-style” descents in the Bluff network.

Getting There

Directions

To reach Skitzo, travel from Smithers toward The Bluff recreation area via Highway 16 and follow access roads into the Hudson Bay Mountain trail system. From the main Bluff parking area, ride up Bluff Road or connecting climb trails into the upper Bluff network. Skitzo is accessed through upper junctions and is typically linked with other advanced trails such as Soul Stripper, Back in Black, and Four Horsemen.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Bluff recreation area parking lot at the base of the trail system. Additional roadside pullouts may be available, but vehicles must not block gates, logging roads, or emergency access routes. Parking can be limited during weekends and peak riding season.

Safety & Preparation

Skitzo features very technical terrain with steep descents, roots, rocks, and tight corners that can change quickly in difficulty. The trail can be slippery in wet conditions and has limited visibility in forested sections. Riders should be prepared for sudden obstacles and maintain full control at all times. Protective gear, including a helmet, is strongly recommended, and advanced protection is advised. This trail is not suitable for beginner or intermediate riders.
