Getting There

Directions

To reach Shining, travel from Smithers toward The Bluff recreation area via Highway 16 and follow access roads into the Hudson Bay Mountain trail network. From the main Bluff parking area, ride up Bluff Road or connecting climb trails to access the upper Bluff trail system. Shining is located in the upper network and is typically accessed via junctions near other advanced trails such as Broken Axe, Back in Black, and Four Horsemen.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Bluff recreation area parking lot near the base of the trail system. Additional roadside pullouts may be available, but vehicles must not block gates, logging roads, or emergency access routes. Parking can be limited during weekends and peak riding season.

Safety & Preparation

Shining is a steep and technical trail with roots, rocks, and tight corners that demand advanced riding skills. The trail can become very slippery in wet conditions, increasing the difficulty significantly. Riders should be prepared for high speeds, limited visibility, and natural obstacles throughout the descent. Protective gear, including a helmet, is strongly recommended, and full-face helmets and pads are advisable. This trail is not suitable for beginner or intermediate riders.
