About This Trail

Four Horsemen is a steep and highly technical mountain bike descent on The Bluff in Smithers, BC. It is known for its challenging natural terrain, including tight corners, root networks, loose rock sections, and sustained steep pitches. The trail is considered one of the more serious advanced lines in the Bluff system and rewards precise bike handling and strong braking control.

Getting There

Directions

To reach Four Horsemen, travel from Smithers toward The Bluff recreation area via Highway 16 and continue into the Hudson Bay Mountain access roads. From the main Bluff parking area, ride up Bluff Road or connecting climb trails into the upper trail network. Four Horsemen is accessed from upper Bluff junctions and is typically connected with other advanced trails such as Broken Axe, Shining, and Back in Black.

Parking

Parking is available at the main Bluff recreation area parking lot near the base of the trail system. Additional small roadside pullouts may exist, but vehicles must avoid blocking gates, logging roads, or emergency access routes. Parking can be limited during peak riding times and weekends.

Safety & Preparation

Four Horsemen is a very technical downhill trail with steep gradients, loose rock, roots, and tight, low-visibility corners. The trail can be physically demanding and requires advanced braking and line-choice skills. Conditions can become significantly more difficult when wet. Riders should expect natural hazards and limited bailout options in certain sections. A helmet is mandatory, and full protective gear is strongly recommended. This trail is not suitable for beginner riders.
