Getting There

Directions

The Little Joe Creek Trail is accessed from the Babine Mountains Provincial Park area near Smithers, BC. From downtown Smithers, drive east on Highway 16, cross the Bulkley River Bridge, then turn left onto Old Babine Lake Road. Continue north following signs toward Babine Mountains Provincial Park and Driftwood Canyon. From the main park access roads, follow forest service roads leading toward the Little Joe Creek drainage where the trailhead begins. Road conditions can vary, so higher clearance may be required depending on weather.

Parking

Parking is typically available near the forest service road access or designated pullouts close to the Little Joe Creek trail entrance. These areas are usually unmarked gravel spaces and may not have formal facilities. Vehicles should park safely off the road and avoid blocking access for other users or logging operations. There are no services in the area, so all supplies should be prepared in Smithers before heading out.

Safety & Preparation

Little Joe Creek Trail is a remote backcountry route with limited signage, uneven terrain, and little to no cell service. The trail can be steep and challenging in sections, with muddy or slippery conditions depending on weather. Wildlife is active in the area, including bears, so carrying bear spray and making noise while hiking is strongly recommended. Hikers should be prepared for stream crossings, fallen trees, and changing weather conditions, especially at higher elevations where temperatures can drop quickly. It is advised to hike with a partner, inform someone of your plan, carry navigation tools such as a map or GPS, and bring sufficient food, water, and layers for safety.
